Jordan Love passed for 245 yards and three touchdowns, Aaron Jones tallied 127 total yards and two touchdowns, and the Green Bay Packers rolled to a 38-20 win over the host Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon.
Romeo Doubs had two touchdown receptions for Green Bay (1-0), which won decisively in its first game since parting ways with franchise icon Aaron Rodgers. Love looked comfortable in his second NFL start as he posted a 123.2 quarterback rating.
Justin Fields completed 24 of 37 passes for 216 yards, one touchdown and one interception for Chicago (0-1). Darnell Mooney and Roschon Johnson scored one touchdown apiece.
The Packers took command in the second half thanks in large part to Jones, who finished with 41 rushing yards and 86 receiving yards and scored once apiece on the ground and through the air.
Jones scored on a 1-yard run to increase the Packers’ lead to 17-6 with 10:19 remaining in the third quarter. Three plays earlier, Jones set up the score with a 51-yard reception.
Less than four minutes later, Jones found the end zone again to put the Packers ahead 24-6. He caught a pass from Love and outraced Bears defenders for a 35-yard touchdown.
Jones appeared to pull up with an injury as he approached the end zone. He reached back and grabbed his left hamstring, and he did not return to the game.
The Bears pulled within 24-14 with 59 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Mooney hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass, and Khalil Herbert rushed for a two-point conversion.
Green Bay answered on its next drive to make it 31-14 with 13:30 left in the fourth quarter. Love lofted a pass to Doubs, who leaped near the left side of the end zone for the 4-yard catch and his second touchdown of the game.
The Packers’ defense joined the scoring barrage 54 seconds later. Linebacker Quay Walker picked off a pass by Fields and scampered 42 yards for a touchdown to push the lead to 38-14.
Chicago capped the scoring on a 2-yard rushing touchdown by Johnson with 2:54 left.
Green Bay led 10-6 at the break. Doubs had the lone touchdown of the first half.
