The New England Patriots are bringing in a third quarterback, adding Ian Book to the practice squad, NFL Network reported Wednesday.
Book, 25, was a fourth-round draft pick by the New Orleans Saints in 2021. He started one game that season, a 20-3 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 15, and was 12-of-20 passing for 135 yards with two interceptions.
The Saints waived him in August 2022 and he was with the Philadelphia Eagles last year but didn’t appear in a game. The Eagles waived him at the end of August.
He was a three-year starter at Notre Dame and in 2020, he became the winningest quarterback in school history with 30 victories as a starter. He threw for 8,948 yards with 72 touchdowns and 20 interceptions from 2017-20.
Book will join Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe in the quarterback room. The Patriots have been without a third quarterback since the recently acquired Matt Corral left the team last weekend without notice.
The Patriots (0-1) host the Miami Dolphins (1-0) on Sunday night.
