The Los Angeles Rams signed Royce Freeman to the active roster and fellow running back Darrell Henderson to the practice squad on Tuesday.
Per reports, running backs Kyren Williams and Ronnie Rivers are expected to sit out Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to their respective injuries.
Both Williams and Rivers underwent MRIs on Monday. Williams’ exam revealed an ankle sprain that is not considered a long-term injury, while Rivers is believed to have a strained PCL that will sideline him for a few weeks, NFL Network reported.
Freeman, 27, has played solely on special teams during three games with Los Angeles this season. He has rushed for 1,473 yards with eight touchdowns in 68 career games (nine starts) with the Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans and Rams.
Henderson, 26, was drafted in the third round by the Rams out of Memphis in 2019. He has 1,742 career rushing yards with 13 touchdowns and 66 catches for 474 yards and four scores in 50 games (28 starts) for Los Angeles.
Williams sustained his injury during the fourth quarter of the Rams’ 26-9 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
Williams rushed for 158 yards against the Cardinals, the most by a Rams running back since December 2020. Zach Evans filled in when Williams went down, rushing four times for 10 yards.
Williams, 23, has 456 yards rushing and six touchdowns in six games (five starts) this season. He has 13 receptions for 105 yards and one score.
Rivers left the game in the third quarter after rushing for 9 yards on three carries.
Rivers, 24, has rushed for 57 yards and has four catches for 18 yards in six games this season.
