Red Bull Racing star Max Verstappen won the U.S. Grand Prix, Sunday’s Formula One race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
Verstappen beat out F1 legend Lewis Hamilton in the final laps to clinch his 15th Grand Prix win of the year and the 50th of his career.
That put the Dutch driver in elite company, joining Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Alain Prost as the only drivers to win 50 races or more in their careers.
“It’s a great number. I’m very happy with it. Very proud of it,” Verstappen told reporters. “But yeah, let’s try to win a few more.”
Verstappen tied his own record from 2022 for wins in a single season — with four races remaining to break it. That includes F1’s inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix on Nov. 18.
Verstappen has already clinched the 2023 drivers’ champion title, his third in a row.
Hamilton — a seven-time F1 champion who won four in a row 2017-20 — finished 2.225 seconds behind Verstappen. Fellow Brit Lando Norris was third. Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez rounded out the top five.
