Seattle Kraken forward Jordan Eberle “dodged a bullet” when his upper leg was sliced by a skate blade in practice.

General manager Ron Francis told The Seattle Times that Eberle had a “deep cut” near his quadriceps muscle.

The accident happened Wednesday after teammate Jaden Schwartz stepped on a puck and lost his balance, leading to his skate cutting Eberle.

Francis said Eberle appears to have avoided a serious injury but the team is waiting on test results to determine if there is any tendon damage.

“I think we dodged a bullet,” Francis said. “But he’s going to be pretty sore (Thursday).”

Eberle, 33, is expected to miss some time, and Seattle called up forward prospects Shane Wright and Ryan Winterton.

Eberle has one goal and three assists through 13 games this season. The Kraken’s alternate captain has 662 points (283 goals, 379 assists) in 953 career games with the Edmonton Oilers, New York Islanders and Kraken.

Eberle’s incident follows last month’s death of former NHL forward Adam Johnson, who died after his throat was cut by a blade during a game in England.
