NHL roundup: Connor McDavid posts 5 points in Oilers’ win

Connor McDavid had a goal and four assists for the Edmonton Oilers in an 8-2 win against the visiting Anaheim Ducks on Sunday night.

It’s the ninth five-point game of McDavid’s NHL career, surpassing Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins for the most among active NHL players.

Zach Hyman had two goals and an assist, Leon Draisaitl and Evander Kane each had a goal and an assist, Darnell Nurse had three assists and Stuart Skinner made 21 saves for the Oilers, who have won two straight following a three-game losing streak.

Anaheim’s Max Jones scored two goals and Lukas Dostal stopped 10 of 16 shots before he was replaced by John Gibson, who finished with eight saves for the Ducks. Anaheim has lost six in a row.

Red Wings 4, Wild 1

David Perron scored two goals – including his 300th – and Shayne Gostisbehere had a goal and three assists to help lead Detroit to a home win over Minnesota.

Alex Lyon made 37 saves in goal and Dylan Larkin added a goal and an assist for the Red Wings, who have won three straight games. Joel Eriksson Ek scored the lone goal for Minnesota, which has lost seven straight games. The Wild outshot the Red Wings 38-23 and were 1 of 5 on the power play. Detroit was 2 of 5 with the man advantage.

Just 1:29 into the third period, Detroit grabbed a 3-1 lead when Perron scored on a power play, taking a pass from Gostisbehere and firing a shot from the left faceoff circle past Gustavsson for goal No. 300.

Hurricanes 3, Blue Jackets 2

Andrei Svechnikov scored his first goal of the season to give Carolina, which erased a two-goal deficit in the final 10 minutes, a victory against visiting Columbus at Raleigh, N.C.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Brady Skjei also scored for the Hurricanes. Seth Jarvis had assists on the final two goals. Svechnikov, an All-Star selection last season, didn’t score in any of his first 11 games as his season debut was delayed as he recovered from knee surgery following an injury last season. Sebastian Aho set him up with a pass and Svechnikov delivered from the slot.

Pyotr Kochetkov made 21 saves for the Hurricanes. The Blue Jackets’ Johnny Gaudreau had a goal and an assist and Kirill Marchenko scored the game’s first goal in the third period. Elvis Merzlikins had baffled the Hurricanes through two periods and ended up with 40 saves.

Blues 4, Blackhawks 2

Jake Neighbours scored twice, Pavel Buchnevich had a goal and two assists and Jordan Binnington stopped 32 shots to lift visiting St. Louis to a victory against Chicago.

St. Louis capitalized on an early flurry to win for the third time in four games, with each victory in that span coming on the road. Chicago has lost six of seven. Torey Krug and Robert Thomas had two assists apiece for the Blues, while Wyatt Kaiser had two for Chicago.

Outshot 10-8 in the first period, the Blues made the most of their chances with a three-goal burst against Chicago goaltender Arvid Soderblom, who finished with 24 saves. Ryan Donato and Boris Katchouk scored for the Blackhawks.

Predators 3, Jets 2

Roman Josi had a goal and two assists and Juuse Saros made 32 saves to lead Nashville to its fifth straight victory, beating visiting Winnipeg.

It was the first three-point game of the season for Josi, who joined Filip Forsberg (37) as just the second player in Predators history with 30 career three-point games. Yakov Trenin and Gustav Nyquist also scored for Nashville.

Josh Morrissey and Cole Perfetti scored and Laurent Brossoit made 23 saves for Winnipeg, which had a five-game win streak snapped and lost for just the second time in 10 games.
