Arthur Fils and Hamad Medjedovic will square off for the Next Gen ATP Finals title after moving through Friday’s semifinal matches in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The Next Gen ATP Finals are the season-ending event for the top-ranked male players 21 and under. The event format calls for best-of-five play, with four games winning the set.
Both Fils and Medjedovic were undefeated after the round-robin group stage, and they kept their records clean Friday.
Fils, a Frenchman who was the tournament’s top seed, defeated countryman Luca Van Assche 2-4, 4-1, 4-3 (1), 4-3 (6). Fils won 39 of his 45 first-service points (86.7 percent) and had a 24-14 edge in total winners.
Serbia’s Medjedovic advanced when Swiss opponent Dominic Stricker retired due to a back injury during the second set. Medjedovic led 4-3 (5), 2-1 at the time.
