Lucas Glover missed his opening-round tee time and withdrew from the WM Phoenix Open on Thursday in Scottsdale, Ariz.
First alternate Ryo Hisatsune of Japan participated at TPC Scottdale in place of Glover, who told the Golf Channel that he misread a text message with his tee time.
“I’m kicking myself but laughing myself at the same time,” Glover told the network.
Glover, 44, was slated to tee off at 8:26 a.m. local time. He said he was in his hotel room when a tournament official called to inform him that he had a minute before his tee time.
Glover has won six PGA titles, including two last year.
