Myles Turner, Pacers halt Mavericks’ seven-game winning streak

Mavericks

Myles Turner scored a season-high 33 points and collected eight rebounds to help lead the Indiana Pacers to a 133-111 win over the visiting Dallas Mavericks on Sunday.

Tyrese Haliburton added 17 points and 10 assists for the Pacers, who won their third straight game. Andrew Nembhard and Ben Sheppard each tallied 15 for Indiana, followed by Bennedict Mathurin’s 14 points and 11 boards. Pascal Siakam and T.J. McConnell also scored 12 each.

Luka Doncic led Dallas with 33 points, while Kyrie Irving added 29. Josh Green scored 14 points for the Mavericks, which had their seven-game winning streak snapped. Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 11 points off the bench.

After Indiana’s 67-60 halftime lead, Mathurin’s three-point play with 4:56 remaining in the third quarter gave the Pacers their biggest lead to that point, 89-78.

With 1:30 left, still facing an 11-point deficit, Hardaway hit a three-pointer to cut the Pacers’ lead to eight. After getting it down to seven, Nembhard’s jumper gave the Pacers a 100-91 lead entering the final quarter.

Irving then scored the first nine Dallas points of the fourth quarter, and the Mavericks cut the deficit to just four with 8:56 left.

However, that would be as close as Dallas would get as the Pacers answered with a 20-4 run, culminating with Haliburton’s layup, giving Indiana a 124-104 lead with 4:15 left which helped cement the victory.

Dallas never trailed in the first quarter and led by as many as six on two occasions, the latter at the 5:19 mark when Hardaway’s pull-up triple gave the Mavericks a 22-16 lead.

From there, Indiana fought back to tie the game at 32 after the first quarter and then took its first lead on McConnell’s floater on the first play of the second quarter.

Doncic then scored 10 of the Mavericks next 13 points, stamping that stretch with a jumper to give Dallas a 45-43 lead with 7:58 left in the first half.

Indiana followed with a 20-10 run, including back-to-back Haliburton buckets, giving the Pacers a 63-55 lead at the 3:18 mark.

After another Doncic jumper, Haliburton once again answered with a jumper of his own with 34 seconds left, as the Pacers led 67-60 at halftime.

The two teams meet again in Dallas on March 5.
