Boston College will try to end a three-game losing streak when it faces Pitt on Saturday night in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Quinten Post, a 7-foot senior center, is 10th among Atlantic Coast Conference players in points per game (16.2), ninth in rebounds (7.8) and fourth in shooting percentage (50.5 percent). He made all 11 of his foul shots to finish with 24 points and 10 rebounds in BC’s 72-68 loss to Virginia on Wednesday.
Pitt (18-10, 9-8 ACC) held Post to seven points and five rebounds in 27 minutes during a 77-58 victory over BC last year. Panthers coach Jeff Capel, however, said Post currently is playing the best basketball of his college career.
“He’s better,” Capel said. “He looks like he’s in better shape. He’s shooting the basketball really, really well from 3. He’s always been able to do it, but I think he’s near 40s now (43.4 percent). I think the biggest thing is experience, and he looks to be in really, really good shape watching him on film.”
BC (15-13, 6-11) also came up short against Florida State (84-76, Feb. 20) and North Carolina State (81-70, last Saturday) during its three-game losing streak.
Pitt’s Blake Hinson is averaging 18.5 points per game, which ranks fourth in the ACC. Hinson was held to six points during Tuesday’s 69-62 loss at Clemson. He made just 2 of 9 shots from the field and misfired on all four of his attempts from 3-point range.
Pitt, which has won six of its last eight games, leads the ACC in 3-point field goals made per game (9.4).
Saturday’s contest will be the Eagles’ final home game this season.
“You want to win them all,” BC coach Earl Grant said. “You definitely want to win them at home for your guys in that last home game. Quentin Post will never play here again. … Hopefully we’ll have a packed gym with a lot of energy.”
