Mikaela Shiffrin closed her 13th World Cup season with a win in the women’s slalom, extending her record of victories on the season to 97 on Saturday in Saalbach, Austria.
It was her 60th time atop the podium in the event on the World Cup circuit. She finished in a combined time in her two runs of one minute, 53:22 seconds.
Shiffrin, 29, returned to the slopes last week after missing six weeks due to a knee injury. She said she was happy to be skiing.
“I am probably the most excited one to be here. Everyone is like, ‘I want to be home’ and I am like. ‘No, we just started again’,” she said, with the American adding she has not been home since Oct. 1.
Shiffrin won her eighth career slalom title after winning seven of her 10 starts in the discipline.
“It’s been a wild season. I am really happy to be sitting here and happy for the final race of the season to go so well,” she said.
