WNBA, Prime Video agree to streaming deal

The WNBA agreed to a contract extension with Prime Video, giving it exclusive streaming rights for 21 WNBA games each season, the two announced Friday.

Terms were not announced, but Variety reported the extension covers the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

Among the games offered on Prime Video will be the championship game of the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup. In 2023, that game on Prime attracted almost double the number of viewers it had the prior year.

“We’re thrilled to continue bringing exclusive national coverage of the WNBA,” said Charlie Neiman, Prime Video’s head of sports partnerships. “Following a successful 2023 season, we’re looking forward to reaching even more milestones with the WNBA and furthering our commitment to women’s sports.”

The full schedule of 2024 WNBA games on Prime Video will be released at a later date.

The WNBA’s biggest media deal is with ESPN, but it also has agreements with CBS and ION.

The deal comes ahead of the highly anticipated arrival in the league of some of college basketball’s biggest stars. Caitlin Clark of Iowa, Angel Reese of LSU and Kamilla Cardoso of South Carolina have said they will enter their names in next month’s WNBA draft.
