The Vegas Golden Knights agreed to an eight-year, $58.8 million extension with defenseman Noah Hanifin on Thursday.
Hanifin was slated to become an unrestricted free agent following the season. Vegas acquired him from the Calgary Flames in a three-team trade that also included the Philadelphia Flyers days before last month’s NHL trade deadline.
Hanifin, 27, has nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 16 games with the Golden Knights. Overall, he has a career-best 13 goals and 31 assists this season, counting his totals in 61 games with Calgary.
Hanifin has 116 blocks on defense this season, just 13 shy of his career-best output from last season.
Overall, Hanifin has 62 goals and 221 assists in 675 NHL games over nine seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes (2015-18), Flames (2018-24) and Golden Knights.
Hanifin was the fifth overall selection by Carolina in the 2015 draft.
