Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Brett Pesce is expected to miss “a couple weeks at the least” due to a lower-body injury, the Raleigh News and Observer reported on Wednesday.
Pesce sustained a non-contact injury while turning up the ice during Carolina’s 5-3 win over the New York Islanders on Monday in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference first-round series.
Pesce, 29, recorded an assist in the series opener and logged 8:47 of ice time on Monday for the Hurricanes, who hold a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven set. Game 3 is Thursday in Elmont, N.Y.
Pesce had 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) and a plus-10 rating in 70 games this season.
He has totaled 198 points (39 goals, 159 assists) and a plus-92 rating in 627 career games since being selected by the Hurricanes in the third round of the 2013 NHL Draft.
