The Washington Nationals placed first baseman Joey Gallo on the 10-day injured list with a shoulder sprain in advance of their road game Saturday against the Miami Marlins.
The Nationals called up outfielder Alex Call from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move.
Gallo, in his first season with the Nationals, is batting just .122 with a .311 slugging percentage and leads the major leagues with 43 strikeouts. The 30-year-old has three home runs with five RBIs in 23 games.
In 10 seasons for five different clubs, Gallo has a .195 average, 201 home runs and 431 RBIs over 886 games.
Call, 29, is a plus defensive outfielder who has played 175 games over the past two seasons with the Cleveland Guardians and Nationals. He hit eight home runs with 38 RBIs in 128 games for Washington last season.
