The New York Mets placed right-hander Drew Smith on the 15-day injured list with shoulder inflammation and put outfielder Starling Marte on the bereavement list Saturday.
Right-hander Dedniel Nunez and infielder Mark Vientos both were recalled in advance of the Mets’ home game Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Smith, 30, was 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 10 relief appearances this season. In 182 appearances over six seasons, all for the Mets, he is 12-12 with a 3.48 ERA.
Marte, 35, is batting .288 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 25 games this season.
Nunez, 27, made his major league debut in April for the Mets and gave up one run in two innings of his only outing.
Vientos, 24, is slashing .302/.388/.525 across 98 plate appearances in Triple-A Syracuse. He’s appeared in 81 major league games with the Mets over the past two seasons with a .205 batting average, 10 home runs and 24 RBIs.
