The Los Angeles Angels placed third baseman Miguel Sano on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday because of left knee inflammation.
In corresponding moves, the Angels selected the contract of outfielder Willie Calhoun from Triple-A Salt Lake, and designated rookie right-hander Zac Krisotfak for assignment to make room for Calhoun on the 40-man roster.
Sano, 30, had not played since injuring his knee making a diving stop at third base during a 5-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Friday. The move to the IL is retroactive to Sunday.
He is batting .262 with one home run and five RBIs in 21 games this season. An All-Star in 2017 for the Twins, Sano is a career .234 hitter with 163 homers and 423 RBIs in 715 games for the Twins (2015-22) and Angels, who signed him to a minor-league contract in the offseason.
Calhoun, 29, has not played this season for the Angels after parts of seven years in the majors with the Texas Rangers (2017-22), San Francisco Giants (2022) and New York Yankees (2023). He is a career .240 hitter with 37 home runs and 120 RBIs in 301 games.
Kristofak, 26, has appeared in one game and allowed three hits, two unearned runs and two walks with two strikeouts in two innings.
