A loss isn’t the only thing Dustin Poirier finds himself healing from following his lightweight title fight against Islam Makhachev at UFC 302 in Newark, N.J., on Saturday night.
Poirier revealed Wednesday that he suffered a broken nose, broken rib and partially torn ACL in the bout, which Makhachev won by submission in the fifth round.
Following the loss, Poirier expressed doubts when it came to fighting again.
“If I do fight again, what am I fighting for? Just to fight? I’ve done that 50 times,” Poirier said following the fight. “I don’t know. I’ve got a little girl I love, I gotta see. I think this could be it, honestly.”
The 35-year-old Poirier has alternated wins and losses over his past six fights.
