Jon Rahm withdraws from LIV Tour Houston because of foot infection

Jon Rahm

Major champion Jon Rahm withdrew after six holes of the second round of LIV Golf Houston on Saturday because of an infection in his left foot, according to the tour’s website.

Rahm’s status is unclear for next week’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, a major he won in 2021 at Torrey Pines in addition to a second major for the Spaniard at the 2023 Masters.

No. 7 in the Official World Golf Ranking, Rahm parred his six holes (Nos. 5-10) on Saturday at the Golf Club of Houston. He carded a 3-under-par 69 on Friday, when LIV commentators said on the broadcast that Rahm was dealing with a cut between two of his toes and he was seen limping and in pain during the round.

Rahm, 29, is scheduled to hold a news conference on Tuesday morning ahead of the U.S. Open on June 13-16 at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.

In his first year on the LIV Tour after leaving the PGA Tour in December, Rahm is second in the individual points standings but has not won any of the seven events he has played. He is captain of the Legion XIII team on the tour.

The LIV Tour release said scores for his three teammates — Caleb Surratt, Tyrrell Hatton and Kieran Vincent — will count toward Saturday’s team scores. Legion XIII will add reserve player Ben Campbell in Rahm’s place for the final round Sunday, when all four scores count for each team.
