Broncos add ex-Stanford coach David Shaw to front office

david shaw stanford

The Denver Broncos added former Stanford head coach David Shaw to their front office on Thursday.

Shaw, 51, joins general manager George Paton’s staff as a senior personnel executive.

Shaw and Broncos head coach Sean Payton were both on the Philadelphia Eagles’ coaching staff in 1997.

At Stanford from 2011-22, Shaw became the only four-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year. The winningest coach in school history compiled a 96-54 record with the Cardinal that included eight straight bowl appearances from 2011-18 and two Rose Bowl victories.

Stanford produced 42 NFL Draft picks in his tenure, including six in the first round. Quarterback Andrew Luck was the No. 1 overall pick in 2012 and running back Christian McCaffrey was the No. 8 selection in 2017.

In addition to working as a quality control coach for the Eagles in 1997, Shaw’s NFL coaching experience includes stints as an assistant with the then-Oakland Raiders (1998-2001) and Baltimore Ravens (2002-05).
