The Miami Marlins placed infielder Otto Lopez on the 10-day injured list on Thursday due to lower back inflammation.
The move, retroactive to Monday, comes after Lopez missed games Tuesday and Wednesday. He felt something in his back during Tuesday’s pregame weightlifting session, said manager Skip Schumaker, who had hoped Lopez would be available off the bench.
Lopez, 25, is batting .252 with three home runs and 19 RBIs in 163 at-bats over 54 games. He previously played nine games with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2021-22 and was 6-for-10.
In a corresponding move, the Marlins recalled infielder Jonah Bride from Triple-A Jacksonville. Bride, 28, is 2-for-12 (.167) in seven games with Miami this season.
In other moves Thursday, the Marlins selected the contract of veteran right-hander Matt Andriese from Jacksonville and optioned rookie right-hander Anthony Maldonado to their Triple-A affiliate.
Andriese, 34, has a 5.40 ERA with no walks and six strikeouts in five innings over three relief appearances with Miami this season.
Maldonado, 26, is 0-1 with one save, a 6.23 ERA, five walks and eight strikeouts in 13 innings over 11 games (one start) this season. He made his major league debut in April.
