The Cincinnati Reds activated outfielder Stuart Fairchild from the 10-day injured list on Friday.
The team designated veteran infielder Edwin Rios for assignment to make room on the active roster.
Fairchild, 28, has not played since July 6 due to what the team called a “spine-disc injury.”
He is batting .224 with five homers, 23 RBIs and 11 stolen bases through 72 games this season.
Rios, 30, appeared in five games for Cincinnati and went 1-for-9 at the plate with four strikeouts.
