mariners

Dylan Moore’s three-run double highlighted a five-run fifth inning that helped the visiting Seattle Mariners defeat the Boston Red Sox 10-6 on Tuesday.

Seattle sent 11 batters to the plate in the fifth, which included three hits, two errors, two walks and a hit batter. Moore’s two-out double gave the Mariners a 7-3 lead.

Jorge Polanco delivered his 10th homer this season and finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored for Seattle.

Rafael Devers hit his 24th home run for Boston, a three-run shot in the third inning. Devers had three hits and four RBIs in the loss. Masataka Yoshida had two hits and extended his hitting streak to seven games when he singled in the first inning.

Luis Castillo (9-10) tossed six innings to earn the win. He allowed three runs on six hits, walked one and struck out four.

James Paxton (8-3) went 4 1/3 innings and allowed six runs (three earned) on six hits. He walked one and fanned five in his first start with the Red Sox since he was acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Polanco’s fourth-inning home run pulled the Mariners within 3-2 before Seattle surged ahead in the fifth. Mitch Haniger scored on a fielder’s choice to tie the game, and Leo Rivas made it 4-3 when he scored on Justin Turner’s groundout to first. Moore followed Polanco’s walk with his bases-clearing double.

The Mariners added three runs in the sixth. Polanco drove in Victor Robles with a double, Cal Raleigh scored on a wild pitch and Polanco made it 10-3 when he scored on catcher Connor Wong’s throwing error.

Boston trimmed its deficit to 10-6 by scoring three times in the seventh. Devers collected his fourth RBI when he drove in Ceddanne Rafaela with a single, Yoshida scored on Tyler O’Neill’s single and Devers scored on Dominic Smith’s double.

Seattle has won three of four, while the Red Sox have dropped three of four.

The Mariners grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Robles scored from second on Turner’s two-out single. Turner’s RBI came in his first at-bat with Seattle after he was acquired from the Blue Jays on Monday.

Devers homered in the third to boost Boston ahead 3-1.
