Infielder Jean Segura, a 12-year major league veteran, will be on call to lend a hand to the Baltimore Orioles’ playoff chase after he signed a minor league deal with the club Saturday.
Segura, 34, has not played in more than a year after he was released by the Cleveland Guardians on Aug. 1 of last year without playing a game for the organization. He played 85 games for the Miami Marlins in 2023, batting .219 with three home runs and 21 RBIs.
The two-time All-Star, who has played the majority of his 1,413 games at shortstop, is a career .281 hitter with 110 home runs and 513 RBIs for six different clubs, including four seasons each with the Milwaukee Brewers (2012-2015) and Philadelphia Phillies (2019-22).
The Orioles entered play Saturday in first place in the American League East, a half game up on the New York Yankees.
