Sug Sutton is heading back to her former team, the Washington Mystics, thanks to a deal struck on trade deadline day.
The Mystics sent the rights to Swedish guard Klara Lundquist to the Phoenix Mercury to obtain Sutton and a 2025 third-round draft pick Tuesday.
Sutton, 25, was a third-round pick by Washington in 2020 and saw action in 12 games in her rookie year, averaging 2.8 points and 1.0 assist per game. She was waived before the 2021 season and sat out 2022 with a back injury before catching on with Phoenix in 2023.
Sutton was a breakout performer for the Mercury in 2023, playing in all 40 games (starting 12) and averaging 8.2 points and 4.8 assists per contest. She was averaging 2.9 points and 2.4 assists in 22 games off the bench this year.
Lundquist, 24, has yet to play in the WNBA. She was the league MVP of Sweden’s SBL Dam in 2023-24 and plays for her country’s national team.
Earlier Tuesday, the Mystics dealt forward Myisha Hines-Allen to the Minnesota Lynx in exchange for guard Olivia Epoupa, forward Sika Kone and a second-round pick in the 2026 draft.
