The Atlanta Falcons signed veteran quarterback Nathan Peterman to the practice squad on Tuesday.
In a corresponding move, the Falcons released offensive lineman Julie’n Davenport from the practice squad.
Atlanta has three new quarterbacks with starter Kirk Cousins signed as a free agent and Michael Penix Jr. selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Washington.
Peterman, 30, most recently had signed with the Las Vegas Raiders on Aug. 13 and was released on Aug. 27. He had played with the Raiders in 2020-21, as well as with the Buffalo Bills in 2017-18 and the Chicago Bears in 2022-23.
Selected in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Pittsburgh by Buffalo, Peterman has completed 85 of 160 passes (53.1 percent) and thrown four touchdown passes with 13 interceptions in 15 games. He is 1-4 as a starter.
Davenport, 29, has played in 60 games (32 starts) for the Houston Texans (2017-18), Miami Dolphins (2019-20) and Indianapolis Colts (2021). He was on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad for part of the 2022 season. The Texans picked him in the fourth round of the 2017 draft out of Bucknell.
The Falcons open the season Sunday at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
