Andrew Benintendi blasted a two-run homer and the visiting Chicago White Sox cooled off the playoff-bound Detroit Tigers with a 4-0 win on Saturday afternoon.

Benintendi also doubled and scored two runs as the White Sox (40-121) won for the fourth time in five games. Bryan Ramos had a solo homer for the White Sox, who set the modern era record for most losses in a single season on Friday.

Sean Burke (2-0), making his fourth career appearance, limited Detroit to two hits in five innings while notching six strikeouts. Michael Soroka didn’t allow a baserunner while recording five strikeouts in three innings. Gus Varland got the last three outs to complete the shutout.

Detroit (86-75), which secured an American League wild card playoff berth with a 4-1 victory over the White Sox on Friday night, saw its six-game winning streak snapped.

Beau Brieske (4-5) pitched the first two innings and gave up one run. Jackson Jobe, the majors’ top pitching prospect, didn’t allow a hit in a three-inning relief stint. He also notched his first two career strikeouts.

The game was delayed two hours and 20 minutes by inclement weather.

Burke walked two batters in the first but Riley Greene lined into an inning-ending double play.

Chicago took the lead on Ramos’ third homer of the season with two out in the second. The Tigers left two more runners stranded in the bottom of the inning.

Burke retired 10 consecutive batters before Dillon Dingler’s two-out double in the fifth. Burke then struck out Parker Meadows.

The White Sox extended their lead to 2-0 in the sixth against Ty Madden. Benintendi doubled to right and scored on Andrew Vaughn’s single to left.

Benintendi clubbed his 20th homer off Madden in the eighth after Zach DeLoach drew a leadoff walk.

Meanwhile, Soroka dominated the Tigers’ hitters. He recorded two strikeouts in the seventh, fanning Colt Keith and Spencer Torkelson. He struck out Dingler and pinch hitter Justyn-Henry Malloy in the eighth.
