Juan Soto, Teoscar Hernandez among 13 to receive qualifying offer

Juan Soto celebrates

Thirteen players received one-year, $21.05-million offers from their clubs, including Juan Soto of the New York Yankees and fellow outfielder Teoscar Hernandez of the Los Angeles Dodgers, multiple outlets reported Monday.

The New York Mets extended the most qualifying offers with first baseman Pete Alonso, left-hander Sean Manaea and right-hander Luis Severino all receiving one.

The remaining players extended one-year deals include:
– RHP Corbin Burnes, Baltimore Orioles
– OF Anthony Santander, Baltimore Orioles
– LHP Max Fried, Atlanta Braves
– SS Willy Adames, Milwaukee Brewers
– 3B Alex Bregman, Houston Astros
– 1B Christian Walker, Arizona Diamondbacks
– RHP Nick Pivetta, Boston Red Sox
– RHP Nick Martinez, Cincinnati Reds

If players are tendered qualifying offers and end up signing a free-agent deal to play elsewhere, the original team will receive a compensation pick at the end of the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft.

Of the 13 pending free agents, the 26-year-old Soto is expected to receive the largest windfall on the free agent market, likely a multi-year deal that will pay at least $50 million per season. Soto hit 41 home runs with 109 RBIs last season – his first with New York – and helped the Yankees to their first World Series appearance since 2009.

Hernandez, 32, came to the Dodgers on a one-year, $23.5 million deal and won the World Series with his new club after he hit 33 home runs with 99 RBIs in the regular season.

Alonso’s postseason heroics and Manaea’s second-half revival helped the Mets earn a berth in the National League Championship Series.

Burnes and Santander guided the Orioles to the third-best record in the American League at 91-71 and a postseason berth for the second consecutive season.

Fried, Adames and Bregman helped their teams into the postseason, although the Braves, Brewers and Astros were eliminated in the wild-card round. Walker and the Diamondbacks reached the World Series in 2023.
