The Boston Red Sox pulled second baseman Dustin Pedroia from his rehab assignment Monday due to what the team called “minor left knee soreness.”
Pedroia was scratched from the lineup before a rehab game at Double-A Portland on Saturday, which was supposed to be the first of three consecutive games for the veteran as he works through issues with his troublesome left knee. Portland’s game Sunday was rained out. He had played in five rehab games at Portland from May 2-9, collecting four hits in 16 at-bats. Pedroia remains on the 10-day injured list. The 35-year-old played in six games with the Red Sox this season — the last on April 17 — going 2-for-20. He played in just three games last year after undergoing cartilage replacement surgery in his left knee after the 2017 season. The former rookie of the year and MVP is a .299 career hitter with 140 home runs and 725 RBIs over 14 seasons, all with the Red Sox. –Field Level Media (@FieldLevelMedia)
