Referee Mitch Dunning had to be taken off the ice via stretcher during the first period of a meeting between the host Philadelphia Flyers and Colorado Avalanche on Monday night.
Dunning took a hard fall after colliding with Colorado defenseman Josh Manson about 6 1/2 minutes into the game. Play stopped, and medical personnel from both teams came to tend to the 32-year-old official.
Manson came over to Dunning and checked on him as he was being taken off the ice.
Dunning has been a full-time referee in the NHL since 2022.
