Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe will not return to a meeting with the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday night after sustaining an upper-body injury late in the first period.
McCabe slammed his head on the ice during a fight with Philadelphia forward Garnet Hathaway at the 19:54 mark of the first. He then proceeded to stumble while trying to get up and had to be supported by Toronto teammates.
The 31-year-old McCabe entered Sunday with 11 points (one goal, 10 assists), 68 blocks and 71 hits in 35 games this season.
The Maple Leafs were up 2-1 at the time of McCabe’s departure.
