Oilers fight back, top Chicago to stay hot

Zach Hyman scored the game-winner with 13 minutes left in regulation and the Edmonton Oilers held on to edge the host Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 on Saturday night.

Vasily Podkolzin scored a goal and added an assist, and Adam Henrique and Corey Perry also scored for the Oilers, who have won five of six.

Leon Draisaitl had a pair of assists and Calvin Pickard made 19 saves as Edmonton improved to 13-3-1 over a 17-game stretch.

Teuvo Teravainen and Nick Foligno each scored a goal and added an assist, and Ryan Donato had the other goal for Chicago, which has dropped back-to-back games and eight of its last 10

Arvid Soderblom stopped 30 shots in the loss.

Edmonton outshot Chicago 9-8 in the first period, but it was the Blackhawks holding a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Teravainen opened the scoring 4:45 into the first, one-timing a Jason Dickinson feed past Pickard for his 10th of the season. Teravainen has three goals and three assists in two games against the Oilers this season.

Chicago doubled its lead with 4:59 remaining in the first as Foligno beat Pickard short-side for his 11th of the season.

Edmonton got on the board 22 seconds into the second period as Podkolzin tapped in an a Viktor Arvidsson feed past Soderblom for his fifth of the season.

Draisaitl, who picked up the second assist on the goal, has points in 17 straight against the Blackhawks.

Donato restored Chicago’s two-goal lead midway through the period, snapping a shot glove-side past Pickard for his 13th of the season.

The Oilers scored twice in a 1:41 span of the second period to tie it 3-3.

Edmonton pulled to within one at 15:49 as Henrique tipped a Ty Emberson shot past Soderblom for his sixth of the season.

Perry tied it 3-3, snapping a shot past Soderblom from the slot for his seventh of the season at 17:30.

Hyman gave Edmonton its first lead of the night on the power play, putting home the rebound off Draisaitl’s shot at 7:18 of the third period. Hyman has eight points in his last eight games against Chicago.

Saturday was the second of three meetings between the Blackhawks and Oilers. Edmonton visits Chicago on Feb. 5 to wrap up the season series.
