Red Wings ring up seventh straight win by clobbering Kraken

red wings

The Detroit Red Wings scored four goals in the first eight minutes and extended their winning streak to seven games by romping past the visiting Seattle Kraken 6-2 on Sunday.

Detroit’s streak matches its longest since Jan. 12-23, 2012.

Marco Kasper began the early outburst. Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane extended their point streaks to seven games with their first-period goals.

J.T. Compher, Erik Gustafsson and Dylan Larkin also scored to make it 6-0 before the Kraken got on the board. Red Wings goalie Cam Talbot stopped 31 shots.

Oliver Bjorkstrand and Matty Beniers scored for Seattle.

Kraken starting goaltender Philipp Grubauer was removed after giving up three goals on four shots. Joey Daccord replaced him and made 16 saves for the Kraken, who have lost five of their last six games.

Kasper scored at 3:22 of the first period by deflecting Larkin’s shot past Grubauer.

Compher scored 11 seconds later after winning a faceoff in Seattle’s zone, as he tipped in a shot from Vladimir Tarasenko.

With Adam Larsson in the penalty box for high-sticking, the Wings scored again at 6:16. Raymond set up DeBrincat’s slap shot, which whistled past Grubauer on the short side.

Grubauer was removed after that goal, but that didn’t stop the Wings. Gustafsson skated into the left circle to draw out Daccord, then rifled a pass to the post to Kane, who tapped the puck into the wide-open net.

The Wings made it 5-0 4:17 into the second period with another power-play goal. Gustafsson shot from the point past a screened Daccord. Tarasenko and Marco Kasper provided the assists.

Larkin banged in his goal with 4:39 left in the period on another power play. Kane set up the goal and Moritz Seider got his second assist of the night.

Bjorkstrand put Seattle on the scoreboard with two minutes remaining in the second. Beniers scored in the third period.
