Mark Williams lifts Hornets to rare road win at Utah

Hornets, Jazz

Mark Williams amassed 31 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Charlotte Hornets past the Utah Jazz in a 117-112 Wednesday night in Salt Lake City.

LaMelo Ball totaled 27 points, nine assists and six rebounds while Miles Bridges contributed 25 points and 10 boards, and Brandon Miller scored 20 in the victory.

Charlotte surged ahead of Utah by outscoring the Jazz 37-25 in the fourth quarter to win for just the third time on the road all season.

Keyonte George returned from a five-game injury absence to lead Utah with 26 points on 9-of-22 shooting. He hit five 3-pointers and dished out six assists.

Brice Sensabaugh helped Utah take an early lead and finished with 19 points. Rookie Isaiah Collier continued his solid play of late with 11 points and 10 assists, while Patty Mills, Drew Eubanks and Walker Kessler also scored 11 apiece.

Charlotte trailed by seven after three quarters but patiently chipped away at Utah’s advantage until momentarily taking the lead midway through the fourth quarter.

Williams then ignited the Hornets’ game-winning push with a dunk for a 106-105 lead with 4:13 left. Charlotte turned that into an 11-3 run to go ahead by seven with less than a minute left after Williams hit four free throws.

Williams scored 15 points in the fourth quarter. The 7-footer made 12 of 14 field goals to pace Charlotte, which shot 52.9 percent for the game.

The Hornets outrebounded the Jazz 45-36 and overcame an 18-point turnover outing to win for the second time in three games after a 10-game losing streak.

Ball scored six straight in an early 9-0 run that put the Hornets up 18-7.

Utah responded with a 19-2 run, including 12 points from Sensabaugh, to vault ahead 26-20.
