Genesis Invitational relocated to Torrey Pines amid wildfires

Tiger Woods Genesis

The Genesis Invitational will be played at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego next month, moving from fire-scarred Los Angeles, the PGA Tour announced Friday.

Riviera Country Club is in the hard-hit Pacific Palisades section of Los Angeles and was set to hold the Feb. 13-16 tournament, which is hosted by Tiger Woods and his foundation. The Palisades fire has burned 23,400 acres and is 75 percent contained, per reports.

“We are grateful to the City of San Diego and Torrey Pines for hosting the 2025 Genesis Invitational, and to everyone who has reached out in support of the tournament,” Woods said in a news release. “While Riviera remains the home of The Genesis Invitational, we look forward to playing on another championship-caliber golf course this year and using the tournament to support those affected by the fires in the Los Angeles area.”

Torrey Pines, an annual tour stop since 1968, is the site of this week’s Farmers Insurance Open. The municipal course also hosted the 2008 and 2021 U.S. Opens, won by Woods and Spaniard Jon Rahm, respectively.

The PGA Tour said The Genesis Invitational is expected to return to Riviera in 2026. The course also is scheduled to host the golf events in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

In the meantime, San Diego was pleased to step in.

“It was an honor for the City of San Diego to raise our collective hand when given the opportunity to help our neighbors in Los Angeles as they recover from the ongoing devastating wildfires,” Mayor Todd Gloria said. “We look forward to welcoming The Genesis Invitational in February and offer our full support to the PGA Tour.”
