Sixers keep Kings at arm’s length to win fourth straight game

76ers Kings

Tyrese Maxey supplied 30 points and eight assists to guide the host Philadelphia 76ers to their fourth straight win, a 117-104 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday.

Kelly Oubre Jr. added 15 points and four steals for Philadelphia, which continued to play without Joel Embiid (knee) and Paul George (finger), among others. Several role players made solid contributions, including Eric Gordon (14 points) and Kyle Lowry and Ricky Council IV (13 each).

Sacramento lost for the third time in four games despite all five starters scoring in double figures. Malik Monk notched 21 points and eight assists, while DeMar DeRozan and De’Aaron Fox each had 19 points and Keegan Murray pitched in with 17.

Kings center Domantas Sabonis recorded his second straight triple-double and eighth of the season with 13 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists.

The Sixers led by six early in the second half before the Kings surged ahead 80-68 near the midpoint of the third quarter. The hosts still trailed by double figures with under 4 1/2 minutes left in the period, but they closed on a 16-4 run, taking the lead on Reggie Jackson’s 3-pointer in the final 30 seconds.

Philadelphia held a three-point lead with just over 10 minutes left in the game when a bucket by Oubre and two free throws from Council created a bit of separation. Oubre’s layup then made it 98-89 with just under nine minutes to go.

Shortly thereafter, 3-pointers by Lowry and Oubre helped keep the Sixers in front. The Kings got as close as six points on three occasions down the stretch, but Maxey or Lowry answered with two points each time.

Monk scored 12 points in the first quarter as Sacramento led 30-28 after one period.

Maxey and Gordon combined for 18 points in the second quarter as the Sixers took a 60-56 lead into the locker room. There were nine ties and nine lead changes in the period.
