Otega Oweh scores 24 as No. 19 Kentucky blows out LSU

kentucky

Otega Oweh scored 24 points to lead a balanced scoring effort as No. 19 Kentucky dominated LSU 95-64 in Southeastern Conference play Tuesday night in Lexington, Ky.

Owek made 9-of-11 field-goal attempts and added a game-high eight rebounds for the Wildcats (20-10, 9-8 SEC) in their first game since announcing second-leading scorer Jaxson Robinson (wrist surgery) will miss the rest of the season. Brandon Garrison and Ansley Almonor scored 15 points each and Collin Chandler added 11.

Robert Williams III scored 15 points, Cam Carter added 14 and Jordan Sears had 13 to lead the Tigers (14-16, 3-14), who played without leading rebounder Corey Chest (foot) and third-leading scorer Vyctorius Miller (leg).

Kentucky visits No. 15 Missouri and LSU hosts No. 22 Texas A&M on Saturday to conclude the regular season before heading to the SEC tournament next week.

Andrew Carr scored five points as Kentucky started the second half with a 10-4 run to expand its 27-point halftime lead to 33 points. The Wildcats went on to lead by as many as 38 points.

Miller made a dunk to start the night’s scoring, but Kentucky scored the next 15 points. Oweh hit two field goals, Koby Brea and Carr each made a 3-pointer, Amari Williams converted a three-point play and Lamont Butler finished the run with a dunk.

Mike Williams III hit a jumper to end a nearly five-minute scoring drought for the Tigers. Garrison answered with a 3-pointer to become the sixth Wildcat to score, but LSU scored the next six points to close within 18-10.

Almonor made a 3-pointer and Oweh followed with two dunks, a three-point play and layup to expand the lead to 20 points. Mike Williams III made a jumper to stop Kentucky’s 12-point run and the Tigers’ five-minute scoring drought as they crept within 16 twice.

The Wildcats responded with a 10-1 run and kept rolling to a 50-23 halftime lead. They shot 59 percent from the floor and were 7-of-14 on 3-pointers while LSU missed all eight of its shots from beyond the arc.
