The Los Angeles Chargers are signing running back Najee Harris to a one-year deal worth up to $9.25 million, per NFL Network and ESPN.
Harris was a 2021 first-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He rushed for 1,000+ yards in each of his first four NFL seasons, becoming only the 14th player in league history to accomplish that feat and the first since the Tennessee Titans’ Chris Johnson in 2011.
Last season, Harris rushed for 1,043 yards and six touchdowns to go along with 36 receptions for 283 yards. He broke 22 tackles, which was tied for eighth-most in the NFL.
The 27-year-old averaged a pedestrian 4.0 yards per carry. However, Pittsburgh’s offensive line finished 18th in run block win rate.
The Chargers are overhauling the running back position. Last offseason, they signed former Baltimore Ravens running back duo JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards. In 2024, Dobbins posted 195 carries for 905 yards and nine touchdowns in 13 games, while Edwards had 365 rushing yards and four touchdowns over 101 carries.
On Friday, the Chargers released Edwards. Dobbins is an unrestricted free agent.
