Brooks Koepka: ‘Don’t know where I’m going’ once LIV contract expires

Brooks Koepka did not entirely dismiss recent comments by Fred Couples that the five-time major champion wants to return to the PGA Tour, but said that he does intend to fulfill his LIV Golf contract.

Couples stirred speculation about Koepka’s future by telling a Seattle radio station last week that he “really wants to come back and play the Tour.” Koepka said he texted with Couples after the comments were made, but that the two did not go into much detail about future plans.

“Everybody seems to have their own opinion and no one asks me,” Koepka said on Wednesday ahead of this week’s LIV event in Singapore. “Like I’ve said before, I’m not in those rooms. I’ve got a contract obligation out here to fulfill, and then we’ll see what happens.”

Koepka left the PGA Tour in June 2022 for a contract with LIV that is reportedly worth more than $100 million and runs through 2026.

Couples said last week that he talks to Koepka “all the time,” and that he believes the 34-year-old wants to return to the tour. The comments came as the tour and the Public Investment Fund that backs LIV continue negotiations about a potential merger that have involved President Donald Trump.

“I don’t know where I’m going, so I don’t know how everybody else does,” Koepka said. “Right now I’m just focused on how do I play better, how do I play better in the majors, how does this team win, and then we’ll figure out next year and how to play better again.

“It’s the same thing. It’s just a revolving cycle.”

Koepka is the defending champion in Singapore but has gotten off to a slow start in 2025. The Smash GC captain leads LIV with five career victories, but sits in 22nd place in the individual standings through the first three events of the year. Meanwhile, Smash sits in last place among the 13 teams.

“I’ve been terrible, but I feel like I’m definitely playing a lot better than what the results are,” Koepka said. “It’s just sometimes that happens. That’s golf.”

After nearly winning the Masters in 2023 before going on to claim his third PGA Championship the following month, Koepka called 2024 “a pretty down year.” While he did finish fifth in the individual LIV standings, Koepka struggled in the majors, failing to post a single top-25 finish.

That included a tie for 45th at Augusta, where Koepka will be among the LIV contingent next month.

“The major performances weren’t there,” Koepka said of 2024. “Typically I’m a slow starter. I’ve never gotten off any season I’ve played professionally to a hot start. Usually it takes a couple rounds just to get going.

“But we’re running out of time here for Augusta, so something better change.”

The drive to perform better in majors has fueled some of the speculation around Koepka’s rumored desire to return to the tour. While declining to fully refute Couples’ claim, Koepka maintained that he is uncertain what his professional future holds.

“I’ve got nothing,” he said. “Everybody else seems to know more than I do.”
