The Cleveland Guardians signed right-hander Tanner Bibee to a five-year deal with a club option for 2030 on Saturday.
Financial terms weren’t announced by the team, but The Athletic reports the deal is worth a minimum of $48 million.
Bibee is reportedly slated to make $21 million in 2029. He would make the same in 2030 if the Guardians pick up the option, increasing the worth to $68 million. There is a $1 million buyout.
The length of the deal buys out all of Bibee’s arbitration-eligible seasons.
Bibee will reportedly earn $3 million in salary this season and receive a $2 million signing bonus.
Bibee, 26, is slated to make his first career Opening Day start on Thursday when the Guardians visit the Kansas City Royals.
Bibee is 22-12 with a 3.25 ERA in 56 starts over two major league seasons.
He was the runner-up for the 2023 American League Rookie of the Year balloting when he went 10-4 with a 2.98 ERA and 141 strikeouts in 142 innings over 25 starts.
Last season, Bibee was 12-8 with a 3.47 ERA with 187 strikeouts in 173 2/3 innings over 31 starts. He was 0-1 with a 3.45 ERA in four postseason starts.
Bibee was a fifth-round pick in the 2021 draft. He pitched in college for Cal State Fullerton.
