Kalen Ballage rushed for 110 yards — including a United Football League-record 77-yarder for a touchdown — as the host Arlington Renegades routed the San Antonio Brahmas 33-9 on Saturday in the season opener for both teams.
Ballage had nine carries for a 12.2-yard average, while teammate De’Veon Smith was efficient with three attempts for three TDs, each a 1-yard score. The Renegades rushed 31 times for 183 yards, a 5.9 average.
Arlington quarterback Luis Perez completed 20 of 25 passes for 164 yards with one interception. Sal Cannella was the team’s leading receiver with five catches for 45 yards. Lucas Havrisik added a 26-yard field goal with 24 seconds left in the game.
San Antonio was outscored in each quarter. The Brahmas scored on Donald De La Haye’s 39-yard field goal in the second quarter, and John Lovett’s 12-yard touchdown run.
Kellen Mond was 17 of 31 for 159 yards for San Antonio, which totaled only 105 rushing yards on 20 attempts.
