The Los Angeles Angels recalled right-handed pitcher Caden Dana from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Ryan Johnson was placed on the paternity list.
Dana is ranked as the No. 76 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline. He is rated as the organization’s No. 2 overall prospect, behind 2024 first-round pick Christian Moore.
Dana lit up his competition in Double-A last season, pitching 135 2/3 innings with a 2.52 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 147 strikeouts.
The 21-year-old made his MLB debut in September. In his first start, Dana pitched six innings, allowing two runs on two hits with four strikeouts against the Seattle Mariners. However, he surrendered nine earned runs over his next two outings across 4 1/3 innings.
Dana should enter a lower-pressure situation this time around. Notably, the Angels’ rotation has been outstanding, leading MLB in quality starts (five). The right-hander will assume Johnson’s spot in the bullpen for now.
