The Arizona Diamondbacks placed star second baseman Ketel Marte on the 10-day injured list Saturday due a strained left hamstring.
The Diamondbacks recalled fellow infielder Tim Tawa from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move.
Marte was removed from Arizona’s game against the Washington Nationals in the top of the first inning Friday after sustaining the injury while running out a double. He pulled up as he approached second base and was replaced by pinch runner Garrett Hampson.
Marte, who signed a six-year, $116.5 million contract extension Thursday, missed time last season with ankle and back injuries that limited him to 136 games. He still finished third in NL MVP voting.
A two-time All-Star, Marte missed time with hamstring injuries in 2019, 2021, and 2022.
Marte, 31, is batting .346 with one RBI and six runs in eight games this season.
He is a career .281 hitter with 143 homers and 516 RBIs in 1,112 games with the Seattle Mariners (2015-16) and Diamondbacks.
Tawa, 25, is batting .391 with three homers and 12 RBIs in six games this season with the Aces.
