Minnesota Twins designated hitter Nelson Cruz, who is second in the American League in home runs with 32, left Thursday night’s game with the Cleveland Indians in the fourth inning with an apparent left wrist injury.
Cruz grimaced in pain after swinging and missing on a 2-1 fastball from Mike Clevinger. After talking with manager Rocco Baldelli and team trainers, he left the game.
C.J. Cron replaced Cruz at the plate and struck out on the next pitch.
Cruz missed 19 games earlier this season after injuring the same left wrist on a swing in a May 12 game against the Detroit Tigers. The 39-year-old slugger is only eight homers shy of 400 for his career.
He entered the night as one of the hottest hitters in baseball, batting .426 with 13 homers and 27 RBIs in his previous 15 games.
