Trevor Story collected three hits, including a pair of three-run home runs, to help the Boston Red Sox extend their winning streak to three games by beating the visiting Chicago White Sox 10-3 Friday night.
Story’s first home run put Boston in front 3-0 in the first inning, and his second homer stretched Boston’s lead to 9-2 in the seventh.
Ceddanne Rafaela added a two-run home run and Carlos Narvaez hit a solo shot for the Red Sox. Boston also received three hits from Rob Refsnyder.
Hunter Dobbins (2-0) made his second MLB start for Boston and held Chicago to two runs (one earned) on three hits in six innings. He struck out six and didn’t walk a batter.
Andrew Benintendi hit his third home run of the season for Chicago, which has lost five in a row. The White Sox dropped to 0-7 on the road.
Boston third baseman Alex Bregman was in the lineup after missing one game while on paternity leave. He went 0-for-3, walked twice and scored twice.
Chicago starter Martin Perez (1-1) was pulled after three innings (52 pitches) with the White Sox trailing 4-0. He allowed five hits, walked two and didn’t record a strikeout.
After Story gave Boston a 3-0 lead, he made it 4-0 by scoring on Refsnyder’s double in the third. Benintendi’s solo home run in the fourth cut Boston’s lead to 4-1, but Rafaela homered in the bottom half of the fourth to make it 6-1.
It was 6-2 when Benintendi scored from third on a Joshua Palacios groundout in the sixth, but Story’s fifth home run of the season gave the Red Sox a 9-2 advantage.
Narvaez hit the first home run of his MLB career in the eighth. Then Chicago finalized the scoring when Brooks Baldwin drove home Andrew Vaughn with a single in the ninth.
