New York City FC announced the signing of Australian midfielder Aiden O’Neill on Friday.
O’Neill, 26, arrives from Belgian side Standard Liege and is signed through 2028.
“Aiden is a player we’ve followed for a while. We’re confident he’ll be a strong addition to the team,” NYCFC sporting director David Lee said. “He adds depth and flexibility to our roster as we begin to build the team around Pascal’s vision.”
O’Neill wore the captain’s armband at Standard Liege and tallied two goals and an assist in 54 appearances since 2023. He previously played with Melbourne City FC (2020-23) and has earned 19 caps with the Australian national team.
“I’ve heard incredible things about the organization and the city, and I can’t wait to get started and meet everyone,” O’Neill said. “I’m especially looking forward to playing in front of the passionate New York City fanbase and giving them a reason to cheer as we compete for trophies.”
