Tommy Edman hit a game-ending two-run single to right field in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers registered a 7-6 victory over the visiting Miami Marlins on Monday in the opener of a three-game series.
Teoscar Hernandez homered for the third consecutive game as the Dodgers, who blew a five-run lead, increased their winning streak to three games.
Dane Myers delivered a game-tying pinch-hit grand slam in a five-run sixth inning for the Marlins. He finished with two hits, as did teammate Otto Lopez, as Miami lost its third consecutive game. Agustin Ramirez went 0-for-4 after he opened his career last week with nine hits and three home runs over his first five games.
Jesus Sanchez gave the Marlins a 6-5 lead in the top of the 10th on a two-out double to right-center off Kirby Yates (3-1).
The Dodgers’ Andy Pages walked to open the bottom of the 10th, and Enrique Hernandez bunted automatic runner Michael Conforto to third and Pages to second. Edman hit a first-pitch sweeper off Ronny Henriquez (1-1) to score both runners.
The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead three batters into the bottom of the first when Shohei Ohtani singled, stole second and came home on a one-out single from Freddie Freeman. Mookie Betts delivered an RBI single in the third inning and Miguel Rojas added an RBI double in the fourth for a 3-0 advantage.
Los Angeles appeared to be in complete control when Teoscar Hernandez hit a two-run home run for a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning. The homer was his ninth to move him into the team lead ahead of Edman.
The Marlins began to chip away against Dodgers starter Dustin May in the sixth. Eric Wagaman made it 5-1 on an RBI single, and Miami loaded the bases when Anthony Banda replaced May and walked Connor Norby. Myers followed with a grand slam to center for a 5-5 tie.
May was charged with three runs in 5 1/3 innings, while Marlins starter Edward Cabrera gave up five runs on nine hits over four-plus innings.
