The Phoenix Suns promoted Brian Gregory to general manager on Thursday.
Gregory, 58, was hired as the Suns’ vice president of player programming last June.
James Jones, who has been the Phoenix GM since 2019, will transition to an advisory role.
The first order of business is hiring a new head coach after the Suns parted ways with Mike Budenholzer earlier this month following a 36-46 season.
Gregory joined the Suns’ front office after 19 seasons as a head coach in NCAA Division I men’s basketball.
He compiled a 327-287 record at Dayton (2003-11), Georgia Tech (2011-16) and South Florida (2017-23).
