Rockies rally past Giants for 2nd road win of season

Rockies, Giants

Hunter Goodman singled in Jordan Beck with the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as the visiting Colorado Rockies rallied for a 4-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants in the opener of their four-game series on Thursday night.

Ryan McMahon homered and Brenton Doyle and Alan Trejo each had two hits for Colorado, which won back-to-back games for the first time this season. It also was just the second road win in 16 games this season for the Rockies, and the first since March 29 at Tampa Bay.

Angel Chivilli (1-2) picked up the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and Zach Agnos pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his second save in two days. Kyle Freeland allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings in his 207th career start with the Rockies, breaking the franchise record of 206 for starts held by Aaron Cook.

Heliot Ramos homered, Wilmer Flores went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored and Willy Adames and Mike Yastrzemski each added two hits for the Giants, who lost their season-high third consecutive game. Tyler Rogers (2-1) suffered the loss, allowing two run on three hits in one inning of relief.

San Francisco took a 1-0 lead when Ramos led off the bottom of the first with his fifth home run, a 430-foot line drive to left-center.

Colorado tied it in the third when Trejo hit a double that one-hopped the fence in left and scored on a single by Doyle.

The Giants took a 3-1 lead in the sixth. Adames led off with a single and then came around to score on a double to right by Flores. One out later, Yastrzemski doubled off the top of the wall in left to drive in Flores.

The Rockies cut it to 3-2 in the seventh when McMahon led off with his third home run over the 391 sign in center and then took a 4-3 lead in the eighth with two runs off Rogers, an RBI double by Beck driving in Doyle who had singled and stole second, followed one out later by an RBI single to right by Goodman that proved to be the game-winner.
