LA Thieves, Surge one win away from CDL Stage 3 Major grand final

The Vancouver Surge and Los Angeles Thieves advanced on Saturday to the upper-bracket final of the Call of Duty League’s Stage 3 Major in Boca Raton, Fla.

They will play on Sunday, when the lower bracket will determine its finalists, which will square off to reach Sunday’s grand final of the $365,000 double-elimination major. The championship team will earn $150,000 and 100 Call of Duty League points.

The Los Angeles Thieves swept the Miami Heretics 3-0 in the upper-bracket semifinals, winning 250-139 on Red Card Hardpoint, 6-0 on Dealership Search & Destroy and 3-0 on Vault Control.

The Vancouver Surge went to four maps to oust Boston Breach. The Surge won the first two, 250-167 on Vault Hardpoint and 6-2 on Dealership Search & Destroy. Boston came back with a 3-0 win on Vault Control, then Vancouver claimed Skyline Hardpoint 250-106.

Toronto Ultra beat Minnesota Rokker 3-1 in a lower-bracket second-round match. Toronto won 250-219 on Vault Hardpoint, fell 6-4 on Rewind Search & Destroy, then finished the match with wins on Vault Control (3-1) and Skyline Hardpoint (250-157).

Ultra moved on to the lower-bracket quarterfinals and eliminated Boston Breach 3-1. Toronto dominated 250-79 on Skyline Hardpoint, fell 6-4 on Dealership Search & Destroy, then closed out with victories on Vault Control (3-2) and Vault Hardpoint (250-115).

Going all five maps, the Miami Heretics battled past Atlanta FaZe in the other lower-bracket quarterfinal.

The Heretics struck first, winning 250-115 on Vault Hardpoint. Atlanta responded with wins on Protocol Search & Destroy (6-5) and Hacienda Control (3-0). Miami stayed alive with a 250-160 win on Hacienda Hardpoint before winning 6-4 on Dealership Search & Destroy to win the match.

Four matches are scheduled for Sunday:

Toronto Ultra vs. Miami Heretics (lower-bracket semifinal)
TBD vs. TBD in lower-bracket final
TBD vs. TBD in grand final
